Bwlchgwyn Cabin Crew

Bwlchgwyn School's out of school childcare facility is known as Bwlchgwyn Cabin Crew and is a non-profit making organisation run by a volunteer committee for the benefit of local parents. It is a registered childcare provider offering high-quality childcare which is accessible and affordable to all, including children from other schools. We are regulated by the Care Inspectorate for Wales (CIW) and adhere to the National Minimum Standards for Childcare. We provide care for children aged from 2 to 12 years up to a maximum of 40 children and adhere to CIW's recommended adult:child ratios.

 Childcare offered includes: 

• Nursery/Playgroup Plus(age 2+ years) - open 11:30am 'til 3:10pm every weekday during term time(excluding inset days)
• After-School Club(age 3 - 12 years) - open 3:15pm 'til 6pm every weekday during term time(excluding inset days)
• Holiday Club(age 3 - 12years) - open 8:00am 'til 5:30pm every weekday during school holidays(including inset days)
• Flying Start & Playgroup(age 2+ years) - open 9:00am 'til 11:30am every weekday during term time(excluding inset days)

We operate from a self-contained building situated within the grounds of Bwlchgwyn School. Our aim is to provide a happy, warm, stimulating and secure environment so that your child/ren can enjoy their time with us. We offer a range of play activities/workshops in a welcoming and safe atmosphere. We operate an Equal Opportunities and Inclusion policy, offering freedom from discrimination.

Bwlchgwyn Cabin Crew has become a vital community resource for many local families and is of huge benefit to Bwlchgwyn School. We are extremely proud of the findings of our most recent CIW inspection (www.careinspectorate.wales) as well as being awarded ‘Out of School Club of the Year’ and 'Playgroup of the Year' by Wrexham Childcare Awards.  

The school's Governing Body has always given its support to this venture and is now very pleased to see how successful it has become. We are also very fortunate that our Head Teacher is very supportive and understands the role of the club and how it interacts with the school. 

Bwlchgwyn Cabin Crew is managed by a small group of volunteer parents who employ a team of staff, all of whom are DBS checked and suitably qualified. In addition to their childcare qualifications staff also hold first aid, food hygiene and safeguarding qualifications as a minimum.

Bwlchgwyn Cabin Crew has been approved as a childcare provider for the Government funded 30 hour Childcare Offer for Wales in Wrexham, Denbighshire and Flintshire. This funding entitles working parents of 3 & 4 year olds to 30 hours of combined Childcare and Early Education for up to 48 weeks of the year. Cabin Crew offers the childcare element of the Childcare Offer in partnership with Bwlchgwyn School’s Early Education. Applications for this funding can be made for your child up to 8 weeks before they are due to start Early Entitlement or Nursery at Bwlchgwyn School. As part of Welsh Government's two year old funding offer currently being rolled out across Wales, in January 2024, Bwlchgwyn Cabin Crew was also approved to deliver Flying Start sessions. Eligible children can attend a Flying Start session each weekday during term time at their chosen setting. During the transition roll-out period, Cabin Crew will run Flying Start sessions alongside Playgroup sessions, for those who are not eligible for funded sessions, between 9:00 - 11:30am.

Flying Start / Playgroup

   We are pleased to announce that Bwlchgwyn Cabin Crew have been                approved as a Flying Start setting with effect from January 2024.       

    This programme offers funded, quality, part-time childcare for 2-3            

    year olds for eligible families. The Flying Start programme is 

    undergoing a national expansion via Welsh Government and will be 

    available to all families by 2025. Cabin Crew will now be offering 

    Playgroup sessions alongside Flying Start, in order that all parents of 

    2 year-olds can access affordable childcare 5 days per week between

    9am - 11:30am  during term time. In addition, we will also be

    offering playgroup plus sessions until 3:10pm each day during term 

    time. Playgroup and flying start sessions include an opportunity for

    children to have lots fun, get   messy, learn new skills and build

    relationships with other children that will be in their year/class in           

    school.
